Summary
Humans are largely an undocumented species in the greater universe. All who had ever tried to reach the outer cosmos had not survived; all but one, that is.
X, also known as Xisuma, found himself on the other side of the universe with nothing but what he had on him when he was taken. He decided that this was a prime opportunity to screw around and find out. One by one, Xisuma assembled the crew of the Hermitcraft, a ragtag team of misfit aliens from all across the cosmos. He showed them kindness and compassion, different than anything they ever knew, and they became stronger together.
This is how the crew of The Hermitcraft came to be.

He waves his hands in the air, gesturing at nothing.
Tango nods.
“…How many times have you looped so far?”
Or: It’s four days to the end of the world, and Zed is trapped in a time loop trying to fix it.
