Shane’s anxiety takes a quick backseat to annoyance once more, at being handled like a child instead of a grown man, like he hasn’t been doing this just as long as Ilya, like he needs someone to tell him when to take a break.
Like he deserved to have everything taken away from him because he couldn’t handle it to start with.
“I’m fine,” he says, voice icy.
The step he takes away is too big, farther than he meant to get from Ilya’s side, and the air between them feels both charged and icy.
He isn’t quite bold enough to try and fix it.

Feng Xin would have cursed up a storm, if he could've.
As it was, it came out as a mix of a growl and a whine, something that sounded most definitely inhuman. Which... made sense, because he wasn't even human-shaped anymore. He was now on all four, covered in fur, with a snout instead of a nose, pricked ears that heard everything, and he was panting in stress from the whole situation, his clothes and armor and weapons nowhere to be seen.
He had, in fact, turned into a dog.
(In which Feng Xin triggers a curse array that turns him into a dog. He tries telling Mu Qing about this, but what can a dog really do, especially with the curse corrupting his mind and making him lose his self?)
