The world around him had fallen into a momentary stillness, the ambient trilling of insects and treefrogs gone quiet with him. He swallowed roughly, allowing himself a pause wherein he tried to regather his bearings.
Rough bark indented against a calloused palm. Slowly, the chorus of wildlife rose in volume once again after their brief lull, a hum of noise that had him tilting his head in an effort to listen out for the thing stalking behind him.
In the distance, a singular footfall.

As his shirt parted further with each button undone, the dainty crimson ribbon worn around his neck was revealed, contrasting against his pale, mole-smattered skin. Viktor let his face give nothing away as Jayce followed the thin, silken line of it down his chest with a brush of his fingertips, gingerly lifting the skin-warmed brass of the clicker from where it lay in the middle of his sternum so that he could inspect it with inquiring eyes.
“What is…?”
Viktor watched as his dark brows knitted together momentarily only to lift once understanding dawned on him.
