“Oh, I’m ever so sorry—” Kore begins to apologize before she looks up into the face of the person who caught her. “Oh,” she whispers with wide eyes.
It isn’t a satyr or dryad who held her in their arms. It was a man. Handsome, she notices absently, with lush black hair and dark eyes blown wide as if he’s just as surprised to find her in his arms as she is. A long, thin scar marrs his face, but it makes him no less beautiful. If anything, it makes him more so. They stand there, frozen. Neither able to break the embrace, both shocked by the circumstances they find themselves in.
It’s the man who breaks his silence first.

Caleb leaned forward, but Essek put a finger on Caleb’s lips before they made contact with his. “Try again.”
Caleb’s eyes, half lidded as he had leaned towards Essek, shot open. His brow wrinkled in confusion at first, before raising an eyebrow. “Really? Now?”
Essek smiled back, moving his forefinger and replacing it with his thumb to swipe over the moisture of Caleb’s lips. He gave a considering hum as he watched Caleb’s tongue dart out to meet it subconsciously. “You can earn some kisses when you learn to conjugate correctly. Try again,” he said with feigned impassivity.

:::The only thing Caleb takes more seriously than learning a new language is teasing Essek with it. But two can play this game.
