He was like a doll, a dressed toy soldier, with tufts of blonde hair on his head, his straight posture and even the way he was simply standing. His pale face was set in a gentle smile, but it felt so empty, decorative like it's simply there to seem approachable. His eyes, as white as quartz, was like a void.
Or Tommy dies within a week after his revival and comes back as a ghost. The ghost, Thomas, has no love and doesn't expect to be loved.
He is simply following orders.
Or Tommy's ghost is nothing more than a soldier.

He doesn’t want to do this. He doesn’t want to be here. He wants to go back into the car but he can’t move but he has to move before it’s too late. Oh god, he doesn’t want to see Wilbur, not right now, he’s not ready yet but that doesn’t matter because there is a door opening just to the side of Tommy’s vision and a familiar voice rings through Tommy's ears.
His throat swells. Wilbur’s eyes are on him and he forgets how to breathe.
Wilbur.
“Tommy?”
OR: After Wilbur’s overdose, Tommy is left yet again to pick up the pieces while Wilbur spends his months in rehab. Nothing is the same in Tommy’s life, no matter how hard he or his family try to pretend it is. When Wilbur comes back, can he stay sober?

Of course, that meant his daughter would have to watch him basically burn himself to a crisp with the power of Creation itself, so this was probably better in the long run. He raised his right hand, making sure Thanos could see the Stones his nano-suit was even now incorporating into itself.
Ah, gormless despair. Even better.

“I am—”
That was as far as he got before everything changed.
“Accio Infinity Stones.”
Or, the one where Thanos accidentally made a very powerful enemy and didn't find out about it until the last possible second.

The kid shoots up and he looks scared out of his mind for a second before scowling. “I’m not a fuckin’ kid,” he snaps. Wilbur laughs softly, the kids eyes are blue, they remind him of Phil.
“Right, how can I help you?”
The kids’ bristling demeanor dies down instantly and he looks suddenly much more nervous. The kids posture is shit, Wilbur notices, his shoulders are up and slouched over his chest almost protectively. He starts fidgeting with sleeves of his shirt and he quickly but quietly pulls out a five dollar bill, he slides it across the bar to Wilbur.
“Could I have a- could I get a-“ He pauses, shakes his head and looks up.
“Hamburger and sweet potato fries,” He says it with a confident voice but scared eyes and body language.or phil, techno, and wilbur own a diner and tommy becomes a regular customer. one found family arc later and they adopt him

Summary
Tommy does not live in a fairytale. He ran away from his parents in an act of survival, not rebellion. He gets a sketchy janitor job that’s in the middle of nowhere to have a place to sleep, not rest.
Yet when he meets the creatures- the merfolk- he believes he’s in a fairytale. He cleans their tank and observes them from their iron bars, trying but failing to ignore the bruises on them.
As time progresses, Tommy decides that the creatures deserve their happily ever after. No more Dream or experiments, and no more Tommy once they escape.
No happy ending for Tommy. That is if the creatures didn’t have their own script they were following.

Summary
Tommy was too young to remember the first time he scraped his skin hard enough to bleed. According to his parents he was barely two, just learned to walk and immediately chose to run.
He’s always been that way, it seems. Rushing onwards to seize every new opportunity without a moment’s hesitance. Tommy is sure that when he fell, he got right back up. He’s sure he only laughed and kept on running, paying no mind at all to the trickle of blood dripping down his puny, pudgy leg.
That is - until the bleeding didn’t stop.
