Despite the two being the exact same character, merely portrayed in different stages of his life, one is widely lauded in the pop cultural consciousness and the other is derided for being "disappointing" and "badly written". Through the lens of different masculinities, the current essay aims to examine how the contrasting depictions of Anakin Skywalker in the Prequel and Original Trilogies could have garnered such an extreme reaction to the reveal of the backstory of one of the most famous villains from 20th century pop culture, as well as how the animated interquel Star Wars: The Clone Wars responded to such criticisms and to what effect.

Summary
A few months after the Battle of Yavin, Leia Organa and Luke Skywalker explore an ancient Jedi Temple.
