But even after a thousand disagreements and even more arguments, Bruce remained the man who raised them. The man who grew into the role of a father for every kid that had lived under this roof.
So if this alternative Bruce had no Robins, one could at least hope there was someone else waiting for him. Someone who thought of him beyond just Batman. It was only fair, for no Bruce should ever be alone. Even if Bruce himself most often did not realize so.
Bats are social creatures, after all.
Or
Absolute Batman lands in the Mainline universe and learns that maybe his mission doesn't need to be a lonely one.

Ser Dunk the Lunk, thick as a castle wall, scentless like all the betas of the kingdom and with a nose as blind as a mole, could still tell a pack leader, likely an alpha, was sitting at the grander table, carrying with him a presence that overpowered even the strongest knights without even trying too hard. His easy going laughter almost telling this was both a show of power and a welcome test.

Dunk didn’t mean to become a dragon. Really, he didn’t. He had meant to join the Ashford Tourney, to win himself a small sliver of honor and glory, and to show the world what Ser Arlan’s gnarled hand had wrought.
Instead, he ran afoul a witch, got himself two damn flapping tents for hands and a tail that did not know how to stop moving.
Not to mention the damn prince on his heels. He did not want to be ridden, damn it!

"What are you saying?" Maekar demanded. "You are telling me my son is already dead."
"I am offering a choice, Prince Maekar," the maester stammered, pulling a scalpel out of his satchel.
The blade caught the flickering candlelight, wickedly sharp. "A horrific choice. We can wait for him to wake. But, it is a fatal gamble. If the fire returns, he will die screaming."
The maester slowly lowered it, pointing towards the lower half of Aerion's spine.
"Or… I take my blade, and I intentionally sever the spinal cord. I cut the nerves dead."
Aerion receives the blow of the mace, and Maekar has to choose between killing the body or killing the spirit. Whatever the outcome is, Dunk is charged to mend the broken dragon. Inspired by Me Before You.

“You okay?” Clark says, concern in his tone and a friendly smile on his face. Twice he’s saved Bruce’s life now, and he’s just as nonchalant as the first time. He rests his elbows on his knees, and Bruce sees one of his hands twitch as if he wants to reach out.
Bruce gives him a nod, clearing his throat. “I’m fine. Thank you.”
“You’re welcome. What are you doing out here?” A worried line appears between Clark's brows.
“Borrowing,” Bruce says, matter-of-fact.
