Summary
Less than a week into the new school year, a loud knock disrupts the quiet of the fourth-year Slytherin boys' dormitory. The last person Regulus expects to find on the other side of the door is his (somewhat) estranged older brother, Sirius, his handsome face bloodied and bruised.
Even more shocking than Sirius's sudden appearance, is his request - if they'd be so kind, could he bunk with them in Slytherin 'for a bit'?
His brother's refusal to explain his abscondence from Gryffindor is irksome, but Regulus lets him in regardless, confident he'll unravel the mystery in due time. After all, Sirius has never been very good at keeping secrets from his younger sibling, and Regulus can be *very* persuasive when he wants to know something.
Unbeknownst to the Black brothers, however, their choices in that moment set off a chaotic chain of events that will have lasting repercussions for The Noble and Most Ancient House of Black, and change the trajectory of their lives for good.

Regulus had never made the right choice. Not when he was 11, sitting on a stool in front of the entire school, while a hat debated his fate. Gryffindor or Slytherin; lion or basilisk. 'Please,' Regulus had whispered, tiny and trembling and full of ice-cold terror. 'I can’t go anywhere else'. He was 15 and choosing to stay behind; 16 and choosing to take the Mark; 17 years too late; 18 and choosing to be here, now.

Changed the rating from T to M because apparently T only allows one or two 'fucks', and Regulus swears a whooole lot more than that.
