“Look at you,” she would say softly. She would push any loose strands away from his forehead — he always had at least one slip from his topknot and fall across his face — with one gentle hand. Smiling. “My handsome man. You look so much like Lu Ten already.”
Mother would look at Azula, then. Nod in approval or fix something that needed to be fixed. “There we go,” She’d say. Azula did not ask if she looked pretty, or if she looked so much like a young woman already. The party-goers would smile and tell her she looked like her mother, would say “My, I wish I had your hair, Princess Azula.” She didn’t need her own mother to say those same things. Li and Lo said that only foolish, silly girls worried about being pretty. Azula needed to worry about looking sharp, dangerous, and powerful. And actually being all of those things was far more important, anyway.
Or, alternatively:
Azula: Zuko, do you ever let yourself be guided by our father's unrealistic and cruel standards of what we should prioritize in our lives despite knowing he can't touch us? Do you ever wish we could be normal and worry about typical teenage things?Zuko: Yes.

Excerpt: Yue’s light was cool, slivers of silver highlighting his cheekbones and lips, catching in his hair and somehow making it look even silkier than it already was. It made him appear sharper, almost ethereal, especially with his hair down at night, spilling across the pillow in dark strokes set against the pale gold frame of his pillow. It made Sokka feel… something. Gay, mostly. But also like he'd felt when he’d been with Yue. Not lesser, exactly, but it was definitely a reminder that he was in love with royalty. Not just royalty, but someone who was so unreal it hurt. Yue was a beautiful silver-haired princess blessed by the moon. Zuko was a prince (now Fire Lord) with golden eyes and golden fire who re-learned firebending from actual, literal dragons. Sokka was a guy with a boomerang and a failed invasion plan and he loved two magical people so much that his chest ached, and somehow, they loved him, too.
And yeah, Zuko would lecture him for an hour if he heard that sort of self-deprecation, but he was also asleep, so, hah.

Jaskier has had the Cough ever since he was young. There's no cure, only a ticking clock on his lungs, and as time runs out he can't help but wonder about where his body should be laid to rest.

"Taako takes one look at Angus’ room, and he knows exactly what’s wrong. There are spellbooks littering the floor, scrolls and panicked notes covering every other surface. The kid is glaring down at his wand. His chest is heaving with barely restrained tears. It’s overthinking, plain n’ simple."
Angus, like the good detective he is, has a tendency to overthink things. Magic being a fickle lover at the best of times doesn't help much, but Taako does what he can to help out. Also, he monologues. A lot.
