Margaret just seemed delighted as she looked at all of them before her eyes landed back on Buck like she’d just found her new favorite plaything. Like making Buck feel small and broken hadn’t always been her preferred form of communication. It’s just that now she had an audience who didn’t see him the way she did.
“But we’re having so much fun! Aren’t we, Evan? Don’t your friends here know that you weren’t able to get a full sentence out properly until you were fifteen?””

Buck shook his head, his hand going to tug at his hair. “It’s not okay, ‘Thena. I’m losing him again. I keep losing people. And I know that everyone lost Bobby, that Eddie going to El Paso is bigger than me, that Tommy was my own fault. But I keep being the one left behind. I’m trapped and I’m drowning and I don’t think I can find my way back to the surface.”
“I don’t think I want to find my way back to the surface.” He admitted quietly.

Buck isn't dealing with the aftermath of Bobby's death very well. He's alone, missing the people he loves, unable to get out of his own head. After the argument with Eddie, he goes to Athena and it all comes to the surface.
