The fact of the matter was, Hermione didn't want to talk about it.
Not about any of it.She sat through several support meetings with a leaden gut, ignoring the furtive glances sent her way from quiet hopefuls who wanted to tour her trauma.
She sat and she bore it in the name of healing.
And though, yes, sitting through tearful and dissociative retellings of war from her peers was uncomfortable, it was the way they treated her with gloves because of her resistance to share that put her off entirely.
As if her unwillingness to spill her guts implied she had suffered more than.
As if she just wasn't ready to take the leap of faith that healing required.The end of these meetings often left her with a buzzing under her skin that persisted through the evening. Sometimes, she would take a walk around the Great Lake. Other times she would hole herself up in a too-dark part of the library because that was where she would be least disturbed.
Rarely did she lounge about the living area she was expected to cohabit with Draco Malfoy.

What is the plot of this fic? The plot is Draco Malfoy having a terrible fucking time and never being able to catch a break. It will begin fifth year and take you through his journey of being a death eater, the Battle of Hogwarts and post-war. It will loosely follow some canon events but timelines and dates may not be identical. The story itself is one big what if. What if Draco and Hermione started dating before he became a death eater? What if Draco had been present for certain events during the horcrux hunt? What if the war ended this way and these certain people were lost? The characters and story are in no way meant to be canon but instead, an exploration into other possible characterizations of them.
It's also wise to remember, this is entirely from Draco's point of view. Who is to say that he's a reliable narrator?

With Ron bathing in his new found fame and glory, enjoying the female attention, being the Chosen-One's best friend offers and Harry trying to learn how to live without the sense of impending doom threatening his life, she feels more alone than ever.Realizing that she had played parts in peoples life, trying to please all those around her and suddenly unable to fulfill those roles or suddenly not needed anymore, she spirals into depression and unhealthy coping-mechanisms. Returning to Hogwarts for her final year she finds, that amongst those she'd deemed the most unlikely to accept and understand her, she could maybe find exactly that.
