Summary
Story diverges at Empty Hearse. Silver’s prompt for FTH asked for a story where Sherlock tells John what he did when he was “away” dismantling Moriarty's network. As per Silver's suggestions, Sherlock brutally tells him, not just in “ellipses and generalities” but the terrible truth. This begins as a confrontation that leads to “conversation and allows for healing that didn't happen.” Along the way they solve a case and acknowledge their hearts.

Sherlock is in prison, his ultimate fate unknown and the isolation slowly (or, rather, worryingly quickly) whittling away at his sanity. Mycroft is equally untethered, scrambling for options. Things hadn’t felt right in 221B since John and Rosie moved back in. Everything was off. Wrong. If only Sherlock knew it was about to get even worse. But, for vegetation to return to a barren wasteland, rain from thunderstorms is necessary. A brushfire, even, to burn away the old and provide nourishment for the new… and to expose a truth that’s been present all along.
Excerpt from Chapter 1:
He stumbled as he was yanked backwards by the chain of the handcuffs, Mr. Morrison’s cruel hand having snaked under his Belstaff to assert his control. John met his eye. He nodded once, almost harshly, in the regimented yet reassuring manner of a soldier. Sherlock knew he was painfully squeezing his hands together behind his back as if to punish himself; lips bitten red and a tightly clenched jaw also betrayed the worry behind his steely façade.
“I’ll kill him,” John said, terrifyingly calm. “I’ll kill him and bring you home. I will.”

He’s never had someone in his bed before. For a few days John’s scent will cling to the pillows, and when Sherlock goes to sleep he’ll be able to smell it, and he won’t feel so alone. Not that he has felt alone in a while, not since John came into his life, with his military-tight bed corners and scrambled eggs on Sunday. Spy-novels littered around in the living room, awful jumpers in the laundry hampers. Bits and pieces of John all over 221B, finding a place for themselves, stomping their presence on a space that once was little more than a flat, and is now (sort of, kind of) a home.
Five times they shared a bed platonically, and one time they didn't.

Captain Watson to the rescue! Series compliant until beginning of Season 3 - then all bets are off. Sherlock, off in Serbia, has been captured and severely injured. Mycroft recruits John to aid with freeing him and then overseeing his recovery. The story begins in London but will explode in Serbia, slide into a European hospital and then tiptoe through a safe-house before returning to Baker Street.
