Summary
When the dragons gave the first Ninja their gift of the elements, they understood that as a half dragon himself he would be able to comprehend and control the call of the elements. All dragons faced the call of the elements, it was what made them dragons to begin with. What the dragons had not anticipated, was the elements falling into mortal hands. Split up and fractured though the elements were, the nature of the elements remained distinctly dragon.
And the nature of dragons is to conquer.

Grian does not say I love you. He does not say anything at all. Instead he guides Scar’s head down, until their lips brush, the taste of copper flooding Scar’s tongue. Then his hand drops, and his lungs stutter, one last, pained noise escaping his lips–
Scar wakes up choking on his own desperate scream.
For a moment, that’s all he can comprehend– the agonizing wail of loss that reverberates through his entire body. Scar breaks off with a harsh gasp, breath coming in short, stuttering bursts as he lifts his hands to cover his face. Grian’s lifeless eyes flutter in the dark spaces between his palms and pupils; Scar heaves, and shakes, and coughs as he forces his rabbiting heart to slow and his breaths to come even and deep.
He has to see if Grian’s okay.

"You would get feelings everywhere. No." Grian dropped his hands to look at his friend, who was propped up on his elbow and just barely the spark of his eyes visible in the dark, halo-lit by a torch behind him.
"I promise I will have zero feelings." Scar said earnestly. "Just friends helping each other out."

Summary
Humans are largely an undocumented species in the greater universe. All who had ever tried to reach the outer cosmos had not survived; all but one, that is.
