But his plans go astray when an all-too-similar farmhand stumbles into the museum, and Octavius’s masterpiece takes a turn into the imperfect beauty of asymmetry.

Uncomfortable, with his hunched shoulders and darting eyes, in a way that was almost nauseatingly familiar. Eugene touched his pinky finger to the back of Snafu’s hand, the two of them sat knee to knee, hip to hip, shoulder to shoulder, facing the sea. Snafu’s mouth lifted in a smile, and he caught Eugene’s finger in his hand before he could move it away.
“Penny for them.” He murmured, and Eugene thought of the Alabama sun, of talk of death and war.

Summary
In five years, Eugene had run over this exact scene in his mind too many times to count. Sometimes, he’d yell. He’d curse him out, hit him if he was feeling particularly pissed off that day. Try and get it through his thick, mad skull that waking up alone on that train was the final nail in a coffin that Eugene had taken too long to claw out of. Other times, Eugene imagined embracing him, breathing in the familiar smell of sweat and gun oil as he silently forgave him for it all.

When Larry got up in the middle of the night an decided to work on grading papers, he did not expect to find Ahkmenrah sitting in his living room, hands neatly folded in his lap as he looked at the TV in fascination. Once his initial shock was over, he approached “Ahk?” The former Egyptian king smiled at him “Larry! There you are, listen I need assistance.” Larry just talked right over him, panicking about him being away from the tablet and how early it was and how the sun would rise soon, if it hadn’t already, he just sighed and opened the blinds.
Larry froze, expecting dust in his living room, only for Ahk to keep standing there, smiling. He crossed the room and put a hand on his wrist “This is what I needed to talk to you about.” It was then that Larry Daley, former night guard and guardian of Brooklyn, passed out on his living room floor.
