Summary
Though it was not rare among the nobility, the disease was still rather cumbersome. Hanahaki, as it was so called. A name said to have been given to the condition, first appearing in a faraway land whose name had been forgotten to history. Some say it was a disease brought on by a mage who had strayed from the Goddess's teachings. Others say it was brought down from heavens where Goddess dwelled, striking those with its divine punishment for hiding their truest feelings. Both those suggestions made him as ill as the disease itself.
Alas, despite what little was actually known about it, Hubert was, at the very least, a little grateful that it wasn't typically fatal. At worst, it was almost as if one were breathing with lungs long cursed asthma, or with the after affects of being struck with a long bought of pneumonia. Making it hard to breathe, but not impossible. At its best, it were little more than an annoying cough or allergy. There were potions to mitigate the worst of the affects. But there was only two known cures for the affliction.

If it could scare the Avatar’s companion and the crown prince, Shyu knew it must be terrifying.
“I have some questions about the Avatar,” Zhao drawled as he stood before Sokka’s cell. “And you will answer them if you know what’s good for you.”
Despite the mounting fear in his eyes, Sokka lifted his chin in desperate defiance as he crossed his arms and stood upright. “And when I don’t answer them?”
Zhao smiled.
Sokka tried to rescue Sage Shyu from the collapse of Roku's temple. Instead he, Shyu, and Zuko were all captured by Commander Zhao.
And Zhao never wastes an opportunity.

This will not do, Azula will be Fire Lord soon, and a ruler needs her subjects. Logically, the only thing to do in this case is seek the help of her dead brother, traitor uncle, and their miscreant group of friends that they seem to have acquired, including the avatar he was sent to kill.

Sokka was never sent to guard Yue, he was too busy scouting ahead with some of the Northern Tribe warriors before the Siege. He was catch and capture being taking too Zhao's ship. He barely managed to escape with his life due Aang and a giant sea monster. Now he's stranded in the middle of the ocean with no one except Prince Zuko and his uncle for company.
Sokka should have died, if not from drowning then the burns he received from his time on Zhao's ship. But he survived. Why? Maybe the white streak appearing in his hair may have give him an answer.
Inspired by 'Will We Last the Night' by CSHfic, VSfic but with Moon Spirit Sokka AU
