Summary
Crowley's pod scattered, darting across anemones and coral reefs, sweeping up in the water as if following currents. A dizzying array or colour and movement, vivid tailfins and rich coral vied for his attention. The water swirled around him with the speed of a chaotic dance he couldn’t see the rhythm of, as mers dipped and spun around one another. Pink, blue, green, purple, and silver made up the largest proportion of mer colours, and Crowley’s own deep black and scarlet tail drew curious eyes from all sides. His hair stood out too, with bright red locks billowing around his head so different from most.
Every year mer from across the seas unite in a frenzy of courting and mating. Crowley, recently matured, finds himself tossed into the maelstrom of it all, and the one mer that keeps catching his eye from a distance won't get close enough to pursue. There might be plenty of fish in the sea, but only one pearly tail intrigues him enough to seek out time and time again.

Summary
Bitter. Home, tucked away in the sanctity of his quiet, not too shabby apartment, trying to wind down after a long day (because as much as Ryland loves those kids, they really drive him crazy sometimes, okay?), and all he can focus on is a heinous, bitter scent lingering in the air. Metallic in its undertones, thick and soured like a mix of milk that's been sitting in the fridge for far too long and a damn crime scene. It’s around one in the morning—a completely unreasonable time for anybody to be getting home, especially when they smell like that. There isn’t ever an appropriate time for that. It only means trouble, and oh, trouble surely means that Ryland should keep his nose where it belongs, tucked under the covers and out of other people’s business.

“You look like you could just pick me up and throw me across the room.” Six is more shocked at the complete sentence than he is about the subject. But when they add under their breath, “like it’d be easy.” Six straightens his posture and crosses his arms over his chest.
“Honestly I could,” They bite on that pretty bottom lip and Six wants to tug it out from between those teeth, “but why would I get you so far away from me?”
“Psh, so you could talk to whoever else you wanted.” They say with a little roll of their eyes.
Six doesn’t like that self-deprecating talk, Six especially doesn’t like that bit of brattiness that is tempting to correct.
“And who am I talking to?” Six leans in just a bit, wanting to hear them without having to shout over the music.
They turn back and meet his eyes, flick down to his lips, and back up to his grey blue eyes. That’s it, keep those there and don’t ever look away again.
“Grace, Ryland Grace.”
