“What’s the date?” he asks, his voice small.
Logic blinks, eyes widening in startled understanding.
Patton makes an involuntary ‘oh’ sound.
Roman doubles back theatrically, then frowns at him like he’s not right in the head. He gives a nervous laugh. “The first of March,” he says. “Imagine that! March already! April first is a whole month away! Hold your horses, Thomas!”
Virgil is frozen, his face unreadable, staring directly at Thomas and barely breathing. He’s poised as if ready to dart.
“And, to give further context, the year is 2017,” says Logan. “Does that come as a surprise to you, Thomas? You had had a Q&A video planned for today. It’s in your schedule.”
Thomas’s legs stop working. “Well that’s funny,” he says, “because I could have sworn it was November 2021.”

Summary

Despite very real qualms about this career, Virgil chooses to follow the only friend who has ever accepted him for his quirk and applies as well. Through their testing process, they meet Logan Sanders, a clearly intelligent fellow with more than a few secrets.

Summary
Patton Morales knew that his best friend of two years, Janus Serpens, was a bit... odd. Even for a supposed "illegal alien" who was living in the United States and going to his school in Texas without official immigration papers or parents. So when Janus meets him after school and circumspectly admits that he may have to run, Patton doesn't hesitate to help or offer to run with him. He wasn't expecting their trip to be literally out of this world, but that wasn't going to stop him!
Or, Patton participates voluntarily in his own alien abduction and finds a better family than he had on Earth.
