Summary
My name is Ashley, and I escaped from one nightmare only to find myself in another. My story begins when I made the desperate decision to leave behind everything I knew and move to New Orleans. It was an attempt to flee from my abusive ex-boyfriend, a man who had shattered me physically and mentally. I had no ties left there, no reason to stay, except for the hope of finding a safe place where I could start over.
So I rented a modest house outside the city center, hoping its quiet outskirts would offer me the refuge I so desperately needed. But hopes, as often happens in life, proved to be fragile and deceptive. What I thought was an escape to freedom soon turned into my worst nightmare.

"You know that I'm gonna be dead the next time you wake up, right?" Hallorann stated, half-serious, half-joking. He might be dead in twenty-seven years or really old, Dick wasn't giving it much thought. Aging was a part of life and he was in his early forties, he wasn't going to get any younger... The presence finally revealed itself from the shadow from behind his armchair and loomed over the sitting man, air around them thickening. Hallorann was slightly unnerved by the company, but it happened so many times, he almost got used to it. His eyes were glued to the pages, he didn't even notice the clown's expression. The grin was still there, but there was something else in the way the yellow irises looked at him. Sadness? No, not really. Something more like regret and realization.
