Summary
Space was supposed to be a dream for most, something of comfort on a dark night. Something to gaze upon and fantasize about. A hidden wonder of the world just out of reach.
But it was also vast, and a holder of secrets. A cosmic entity that held the answers for those who went looking, and a danger to those naive fools who were forced upon it.
But maybe unlucky chance was destiny, and who was to mess with that?

Or: Your typical Grace meets Simon and they live happily ever after in their human exhibit on Erid. Be prepared for heavy existential angst, lots of platonic cuddles, a healthy dosage of Eldritch horrors on Simon's part, and Rockys best attempt to see that his new friend and pet human lives long enough to see his life through.
Based on my typical writting expect this piece to be anywhere from 150k-300k words, but we shall see since I only have a vague idea of where it will go.

Summary
After ramming the sub straight into the Light, Simon wakes up on a strange spaceship with no memory of how he got there. The state of the Hail Mary -spacious, clean, bright and comfortable- can only lead to one conclusion: Simon has somehow been picked up by one of the highest-ranking leaders of the C.O.I.
Luckily, Dr. Grace doesn't seem to recognize him, buying Simon enough time to hatch yet another desperate plan for survival before his identity is discovered. In the meantime, Simon tries his best to stay in the man's good graces (no pun intended), but he's hardly known for his charming personality.
Both of them are in for a bumpy ride.

Ryland Grace saved the earth about 30 years ago; For him, it's only felt like 8. Time works differently in space, however the loneliness stays the same. Of course he loves the Eridians, though the strangling desire for human connection has only worsened as he’s grown older— and not aged. Erid's keeping its savior alive, and Ryland hates it.
It manifests into dreams, sick and cruel dreams of a man who could give Ryland everything he ever wanted. As long as the teacher didn’t mind the torment it came with.
So after eight years, he, Rocky, and Adrian embark on a trip light years away from Erid in the hopes of locating the Pavo Constellation, home to a star system full of iron, worship, and desperation. Perhaps they can revive Pavo’s dwindled stars? Locate the man who lingers just behind Grace’s eyes?
Pavo and Grace’s home system feel far too similar, but something lurks within the depths of Pavo’s Europa equivalent. Something that seems to be causing all of Ryland’s frenzied dreams. A man and a monster he promises to save.

A new human, inexplicably, shows up on Erid, and Ryland Grace has to remember how to be a good host. Considering he hasn’t seen another human in about a decade, and this human is both distractingly handsome and incredibly traumatized, it’s safe to say that this might be a challenge… especially with Ryland still working through his own issues, even all these years later.
But he saved the entire world, so, how hard could it be to save one more man?

“No… no it can't be.”
He stares at the window in horror. His brain can't quite comprehend the information his eyes are seeing. That can't be real, can it? That's impossible.
The only thing Simon can see outside of the windows is a black void, littered with countless pinpricks of light, floating in the void of space.
Or, a fic where Simon is an engineer who becomes too good at his job and is sent into space, and Grace gets caught in the crossfire and sent down into an ocean of blood.

Summary
Iron Lung crossover with Project Hail Mary because I discovered this and haven't been able to stop thinking about it. I've never had such a strong urge to write fan-fiction. I've only watched these movies, but soon I'll be reading Project Hail Mary. My science may also be... bad, but I promise I'll try to make it as good as I can manage.
This is set after Simon (The Convict) mutates and he survives (obviously because otherwise how would Simon and Grace meet). Grace and Rocky are on their way to Erid after Grace goes to save Rocky from the Xenonite-adapted Taumoeba, and they enter a dead zone on their journey. No stars, no light, and uneasiness fills them as they realize that some stars had already been consumed. They detect a strange moon, static-y distress signals transmitting from a ship on this moon. They encounter a terrible scene upon connecting with the ship, and Grace finds something unexpected.Bookmarked by CatWizard

At first, there was nothing but static. For a few seconds, which might've been the longest seconds Grace had ever experienced, there was no comprehensible sound outside of the fuzzy feedback of an unstable connection. Grace furrowed his brow, trying desperately to make out something, anything at all.
Little by little, the signal cleared up enough to where he could just start to make out the sound of something...?
No.
Someone... Singing?
His heart rattled in his chest as the singing continued, suddenly keenly aware that he probably needed to say something. It'd been so, so long-
"Uh- Hello?"
Almost immediately, the singing stopped. Grace found himself missing it. Just a little bit. He stood with bated breath, hoping, praying that he hadn't scared the voice off. A clatter of something falling on the ground, heavy, clumsy thuds that sounded like heavy boots hitting metal, static...
Grace tried again. "Hello? Is anyone there?"
Then, clear as day,
'Hello...? Are.. who... who are you?'
(This story happens slightly before the events of Iron Lung, shortly after PHM)

Simon, a disgraced biomedical engineer, spends his time as a hermit, shut up inside his apartment during the day. His ideas and willingness to take risks have labelled him a psychotic recluse, as did the accident that took half his arm, half his senses, and the life of his lab partner and best friend. Stripped of his title, his funding, and his general standing in the local community, he moved across the country to escape. He cannot outrun his past. He is not well.
Enter Grace.
Ryland is an esteemed microbiologist, his genius and ingenuity known throughout the nation- and one or two other countries, but he doesn't like to brag. Despite his numerous diplomas and published papers, he chooses to spend his time surrounded by the chaos of a classroom, trying to keep children engaged in the science and life of the world around them. The distraction is a welcome one after witnessing the death of his twin brother in a tragic work accident. Teaching his students quickly became all that he had. Placed on leave and unable to teach, he now has nothing.
The collision of their paths happens unceremoniously and spectaculary all at once in the midst of a musty gymnasium support group.
