Shay Cormac could have died, all too easily, in the aftermath of what happened to Lisbon—what he did to Lisbon—or when his own Brotherhood shot him in the back. Despite everything, though, he's still here. Maybe he shouldn't be, but... he is.
It's a shame he never got to meet the Kenways before ending up as a shadow of his former self, though. He certainly doesn't deserve being dragged off to meet them—let alone any of their misplaced kindness—now.

Summary
Well over a century ago, the Frye twins found the torpid body of an Assassin even they thought to be long-dead in a secret basement. They worked with him closely to bring down Crawford Starrick, and make sure the Shroud of Eden he would misuse—and that Assassin had hidden, long ago—would be safe.
Now, thanks to the Animus, the Shroud isn't safe anymore. Assassins and Templars alike know that the rumors of Edward Kenway's death were greatly exaggerated. And something has to be done.

Summary
As far as the rest of the world knows, Desmond Miles died on December 21st, 2012. It's as much of a surprise to him when he wakes up after the end as it would be to anyone else—other people who are supposed to have died way before him, and clearly didn't, excluded.
If someone told Desmond before he got himself kidnapped that vampires were real, he would've laughed and asked how much they had to drink, because vampires fell into the same mental category for him as the Templars. If someone told him the same thing after that, he still wouldn't have believed them, even now that he knew firsthand that the Templars were all too real.
It's kind of hard to discount the truth when it's staring him in the face and also looks way too much like his ancestors. They all should be dead.
But here's the thing: Desmond should be too.
