“You are severely touch-starved Mr Leclerc," the doctor explained quietly, pushing the tissue box towards his patient. "You're the worst case I've ever seen, to be honest. Your body is screaming for physical affection, which causes this… heightened emotivity."

"Can I just have depression like normal people?" Charles asked, his voice breaking on the last syllable, as he grabbed a tissue from the box.

    OR

Charles has a condition. He needs to be hugged as much as possible, otherwise he cries. Constantly. The paddock tries to help. Mysteriously, Max's hugs work much better than everyone else's.

    Summary

Charles had learned early not to get attached to things that didn’t stay.

At eighteen, he survived the streets.
At twenty-seven, he built something steady.
At twenty-eight, someone left a six-month-old baby at his door with a note that said, He’s yours.

Now Charles has to decide what it means to keep something.
And Max, who was never meant to be permanent, has to decide whether he’s staying too.

    Summary

He should have been like any other case Charles Leclerc, a renowned psychologist, had dealt with in his life. But Max Verstappen was something else, something of his own—a raw product of trauma and violence. And Charles Leclerc wasn't sure how to deal with him when his patient didn't even say a word—with his tongue or his body. Nothing, it was just an emptiness.

“Nod your head when the answer is yes and do nothing when the answer is no. Can you do that?” I ask after picking up my pencil. My eyes wait for his answer, but he makes no movement.
Here I am, at an impasse. So I try to find a solution, because I’m not the kind of psychologist who won’t move heaven and earth to help their patient get better.
“You can blink if that’s easier for you. Yes?” I try.
He stares at me, his body so still that I begin to think the nurse was making fun of me and that he’s just a mannequin. But his chest rises with every breath he takes, however small.
“Your name is Max Verstappen. Is that correct?” I try again, my fingers clenching around my pencil.
