Summary

“Eddie doesn’t move. His sharp eyes scan the water around them, and his body shields Christopher completely. The current feels alive and charged, and something is approaching fast.
Then Eddie sees it.
A figure cuts through the murky water with terrifying speed, moving faster than any mer Eddie has ever encountered. He first notices the shimmer of dark, iridescent scales, their black-green hue glinting like oil under dim light. Their broad form tapers into a sleek, scaled tail adorned with pelvic fins and a tail that ends in a mighty fluke. A barbed stinger extends from the tip of its tail. It moves precisely, slicing the water behind it, its sharp tip glinting ominously.

Summary
Instead of hiding the truth about Daniel from their children, Margaret and Philip memorialize their lost son in every one of their remaining children's accomplishments. Growing up, neither Maddie nor Buck felt like they could escape the shadow of their brother.
When Buck finds the 118, he gets a chance to be his own person, although the looming attention from his parents and weight of expectations threatens to jeopardize what he's built in Los Angeles.

Summary
They’re halfway through the quarter, October’s end is rapidly approaching, and it’s easier than Buck expected to get people in the department to think they don’t like each other. Most of the time they just don’t talk or look at each other. Other times they bicker over the littlest things, Eddie usually defaults to saying he doesn’t care for birds, and Buck finds one of Eddie’s favorite theorists to shit talk. It’s fun, there’s a thrill in the debrief on the way home after Buck picks Eddie up a little ways away from the department, and he loves watching the looks other faculty give them in meetings like they’re on the edge of their seats waiting for something to happen.
(or: 5 times Buck and Eddie convinced everyone they're academic rivals +1 time everyone found out they were married)
