While Oikawa tried to desperately recall his French lessons from tenth grade in his inebriated state, the Parisian was cocking their head, looking bemused.
He waved a hand, the universal signal for “nevermind”, and the red-haired girl walked off to go rejoin her friend, some guy in a cap.
Oikawa felt his breathing quicken as he stumbled over to the edge of the pavement. Mucus gathered in the back of his throat, and anxiety set in. He was alone in the City of Lights.

“Yuji,” Megumi repeats. Somehow Yuji always imagined the situation in which a crush would call him by his given name would be a different one. In his childlike naivety, he'd assumed that it would be a nice day, they would've been outside and maybe Yuji would've done something stupid, in need of scolding, and his crush would've said his name chidingly, but laughing nonetheless, only pretending to be done with his antics and Yuji would've grinned back shyly at the use of his name and pulled them along to whatever else awaited them.
Instead, he's in a bathroom of a hotel in a half-destroyed city alongside two strangers and his crush called him by his given name because Yuji scrubbed his skin raw and it was the only way to snap him out of it. That's not really how he wanted this to go. Nothing is like he wanted things to go.
or, Yuji and Megumi in the quiet in-between.

“Not to worry, Yoshino,” Gojo announces brightly and while Megumi can’t see his eyes he feels them flicker to him for the smallest fraction of a second and something in his stomach drops. Oh no. “I just know what to do. Don’t you worry about that, your teacher has it all figured out!”
Megumi opens his mouth, impending doom hanging over his head like a storm cloud, but by then it’s already too late, lightning has already struck. Gojo, the biggest ass in human history, flashes thumbs up in the round and then goes: “I’m sure our brightest little shikigami user would love to help you.”
(or: Yuji comes back from the dead, comes back from the dead with a shiny new friend and Megumi is totally cool with that. Everything's peachy. Really.)

Megumi’s breath hitches. A thousand microexpressions that Gojo’s learned to read over the years flicker across his features like the pages of a flipbook. “...what?”

Black hoodie. Ripped black jeans. Docs. Hoodie sleeves tugged halfway over his palms. Rings stacked up to the knuckles, stretched lobes and piercings glinting all the way up both ears. Messy hair like he’d just woken up. A silver nose ring. A glare that could melt drywall.
“I heard that.” He muttered at Maki as he shouldered past her gently and reached for a cup.
