Summary
“–Come Durin’s Day, the Mountain will host great entertainments, games, and feasting in your name and in the names of the other thirteen of the Company. Your path through all of Arda shall be made smooth to ensure your welcome in our lands, Bilbo Baggins. I bring this summons as it was sent from the Throne of Thorin, King Under the Mountain.”
Bilbo’s heart, racing as it had been from this thrilling invitation, seemed to trip over itself at the name. “Thorin?” he whispered, and he stepped forward without thinking.
--
Or: Bilbo learns that his story isn’t actually a tragedy, and that happy endings still take a bit of luck.

Summary
“A Dormancy episode is, well, a temporary hibernation. The body detects less blood than is good in the body, and shuts down to preserve its energy. They are completely vulnerable in this state, and their temperatures drop to circulate the blood around the vital organs.”
Hobbits… They were such mysterious creatures, and yet they were just as simple. They loved their gardens, books, their numerous meals a day and the comfort of their homes. To think they secured such a strong reaction to a hardship of weather, or lack of blood, was almost fascinating — it only showed that they weren't made for tough times outside of the Shire at all.
Bilbo gets injured protecting Thorin from the Defiler atop the cliff, unconscious for more than is usual, and the king learns a thing or two about the hobbit(s) — and himself.

Summary
The detail that had taken the most time (as small as it was), were small oak leaves. Three spanned the width of the bead, so no matter which way it was twisted one would always show.
A symbol of the strength and resilience of a king, forever embedded in this little bead, personally handcrafted by Bilbo. In which no small act of observation goes wasted, Thorin yearns like he has no other purpose, and Bilbo's act of kindness saves the line of Durin.

Summary
Bilbo Baggins and Thorin Oakenshield are destined to suffer. In every life they live, in every age, in every era, they meet, and this meeting brings back all the memories of the lives that have come before. But every meeting serves also as a death sentence, for once they have met, one of them is doomed to die soon after, usually tragically and prematurely. They remember nothing of their past lives until they meet, and once they have there is nothing that can be done to stop their fate.

Summary
Of all the things Bilbo was warned about that night the Company barged into his home—a hard journey east, the promise that there was no promise of him returning, the threat of a dragon, of fire, of incineration—war was not one of them.
And truthfully, he’d rather face Smaug all over again, talk his riddles and spin his flattery as he danced around scythe-hooked claws and bellows of dragon breath, than suit up for battle.
War is no place for a hobbit.
