Obi-Wan swallows. “Indeed.”
Obi-Wan has gotten used to this life. The unending heat, the relentless sand, the viciousness of the Dune Sea; he has been here for twelve years, now, and in some ways it feels like he’s never known anything else. He has even gotten used to the loneliness. At least that’s what he tells himself—he has to remind himself of it, that he hasn’t gone insane like the people in the village say behind his back, when he sees a figure approaching in the distance, backlit by the bright, golden light of Tatooine’s twin suns.

The doorknob dug uncomfortably into the small of Bucky’s back. But as he looked at Steve, an inch away, he realized that his face was twisted into a grin—a kind of dumb one, he knew, but that’s what Steve tended to do to him these days. Always had—turned him stupid.
“Nice dinner,” Steve hummed, quiet like he never was. As he spoke his lips brushed against Bucky’s, catching on the skin. It felt like about a hundred volts right to the chest, right down to his fingertips.

“You know, if you really loved me, you’d kiss me even with—” and Buck waves his hands in the general direction of his mouth, “—all this.”
And because Eddie really is disgustingly in love with him, he actually, for about a second, considers it. Just a faint brush of their lips, or the corner of Buck’s mouth, maybe; Eddie hasn’t been letting on too much just how on edge he is, but this is the longest they’ve gone without a kiss in— forever, probably. Ever since the first one. He shakes the thought away. But he’s already angling down, eyes set on Buck’s; except when he’s about half an inch away he diverts, dropping a quick kiss to the tip of Buck’s nose instead.

An ode, he thinks, would be suitable; perhaps a ballad or a sonnet. Paintings all along the citadel walls. Then, when Merlin’s teeth nearly sink into the flesh of Arthur’s bottom lip, he stops thinking altogether.

Obi-Wan’s mind fixated on this as they were practically pushed into the set of rooms by the guards, who bowed and told them their things would arrive shortly. The door closed behind them with a resounding thud, and then Anakin and Obi-Wan were alone together in a room clearly meant for romantic partners.
Anakin adopted a thoughtful, if somewhat sheepish, air. “Looking back over my words,” he said slowly, scrubbing a hand through curls that had grown long, “I can see where I messed up.”
“Anakin,” said Obi-Wan, who still had not looked away from the one giant bed. “They think we’re married.”
