Will takes a deep breath. Knocks once, twice, and then slides his key into the lock. The door opens, and the first thing Will sees is an open closet door, an NYU letterman jacket hanging from the hook with the number 22 on the back.
The second thing Will sees is standing shirtless in the middle of the room, dripping wet, biceps flexed as he lifts a chair midair. There, in all his Hawkins High Tigers glory, and apparently Will’s freshman year roommate, is Chance fucking Perez.
(Or: the post-canon NYU fix-it where Mike Wheeler can go fuck himself and Will Byers gets a happy ending.)

Summary
It's summer in Hawkins. It has been a year since the possession, and Will Byers is doing his best to navigate through change. He carries an easy confidence, but beneath it lies a cautious, sympathetic heart that understands Will’s silence. He steps in with a gentle warmth that feels completely new, proving to Will that he doesn't have to carry the weight of the world on his own.
Then, maybe Will’s summer wouldn’t be as awful as it could’ve been.

Summary
Will's eyes follow as one boy – Chance – runs his hand through his hair, letting the hem of his jersey ride up a bit.
And look, Will isn’t an idiot. He knows the way he looks at boys isn’t normal. And he knows he has never looked at girls this way. Never followed the movement of their bodies or tracked a bead of sweat as it dripped down their neck. Maybe a part of the reason Will started to actually watch basketball is because he liked to watch the players, not the game. But nobody else needed to know that.

As Chance exhales this time, he brings his mouth down to fully cover Will’s. It’s barely even a kiss, just their lips pressed against each other. As Will inhales, he catches Chance’s lips in his own. His hand slides up Chance’s chest, fisting in the center of his shirt. Chance tangles his fingers deeper in Will’s hair as his other hand comes to rest on Will’s waist. He responds to the kiss immediately, pulling Will even closer, kissing him deeply, aggressively, as if he’s the one who has been waiting all night. Starving.
OR
Will is in Hawkins instead of California and goes to Lucas' basketball game. After, he's goes to the party with Lucas and meets Chance.

When the children’s wing needs a mural, she drags Will along. There, Will meets Chance Lawson: quiet church golden boy, Hawkins High basketball, more follower than leader, but raised on Satanic Panic and Jason Carver’s ghost. To him, “zombie boy” and Hellfire are exactly what the sermons warned about.
