Summary
The Beneath was an underground realm ruled, by and large, by an evil race called Mindraizers. Grotesque beasts with exposed brains and numerous barbed tentacles which were highly intelligent, and controlled other creatures through manipulation, dark magic, and mind control. They enslaved whoever they could and killed who they couldn’t. Many small factions fought against their evil empire, but there had not been an opposing force since the decline of the Corvidelf Queen, Gaia. She had ruled faithfully for centuries, waging war on behalf of freedom, but in her older years her mind had declined. Eventually, she was assassinated by her treacherous husband who came out of hiding in order to seize power from her. The queen’s heir, her granddaughter, disappeared soon after and is presumed dead. The new king, Uranus, was incompetant and tyrannous, losing more and more land and subjects to uprisings, famine, and Mindraizer raids. The Beneath was largely without hope, but not without life.

Simon doesn't know why he asks. No, it's not okay. None of this is okay.
“Please,” he continues when Simon doesn't respond. “I-I need permission.”
Simon closes his eyes. It's his own type of silent defiance. If this man isn't just fucking with him – if he does, for some strange reason, feel bad or guilty about capturing him, then good. Let him drown in it.

Summary
"So he's really paralyzed?" Simon asks.
"Oh? Uh, yeah." Grace turns back to Rocky's sleeping form and gestures broadly at him.
Rocky is curled at the bottom of his tunnel, legs at his sides, body resting on the ground.
Simon nods, looking uncomfortable. "So he won't interrupt."
"Nah, he can't, he's– huh?" Grace fumbles for his glasses in earnest now. His heart rate picks up, but he's sort of hoping he's wildly misinterpreting what he just heard.
"Sit back down." Simon growls as Grace goes to stand up.
Slowly, Grace sits back down on the floor. He looks Simon over again and realizes, with a panicked flutter in his stomach that quickly spreads through his limbs like ice water, that Simon is holding a razor blade.

Grace & Rocky decide to go check out an SOS call. It could have gone better. (Trust me, eventual codependent friendship all around.)

This Is Fine. This is totally, completely, utterly fine.(Grace sounds like a pebble. This, alongside Eridian's extended lifespans, kicks off a chain of misunderstandings that Grace would find utterly mortifying if he knew what the heck was going on.)
