Summary
Hinata’s parents paid a lot sum of money to join a luxurious cruise trip held for the families’ elite sons and daughters of the country on board one of the most extravagant ships that has yet to set sail to the new world. Feeling inadequate due to his family being unremarkable, ordinary and pedestrian, Hinata dreams to escape the dull regimen his parents pose on him and venture out to the world.
Amidst his search for his life purpose, he grudgingly boards the ship and his eyes catch a peculiar young man with pale skin complexion, unruly white hair, tall and thin figure. He doesn’t know what draws him to that man, but he can’t seem to lift his eyes off of him. He gazes at him from afar; watching the sky as if he’s contemplating about life and so he wonders if he is just like him.
Unknown to one another, this fateful encounter would later alter the course, their values, and their outlook in the remainder of their lives.

Summary
If you asked a deeper part of himself, perhaps he'd admit that he'd never been praised like this before. That being called incredible and capable made him feel so many things he'd never dreamed to ever acknowledge. Perhaps he’d dare to say this unknown person he’d never seen in his life was putting him in such a high pedestal, he never wanted to come down.
Hajime wanted to be someone. He wanted to be recognized as someone.
Anyone.
This person thought he was good. They thought he was capable. They liked his reasoning. They thought he was smart. Like he was not some average guy in the reserve course of the school he admired so much, but could never truly belong to.
It felt so good.
He accepted the request before he could second guess anything else.

Summary
The first thought he had when he awoke was—
…How boring.
A rather out of place thought considering what followed next was—
Fuck.
(Which, he considered, was a much more adequate response.)
That was the only conscious thought he had before every other sense was promptly deluged by an overwhelming heat.
Really, Hajime found that he had started getting a tad bit more used to life on the island (at least, as used as you can get when you're forced into a killing game by a sadistic, animatronic bear) so he would've preferred to wake up the same as he usually did: grumbling and gaining consciousness upon hearing that wretched morning announcement. He also would've preferred to not wake up absolutely drenched in sweat.
However, he was clearly not that fortunate.
OR an AU where Hajime gets the Despair Disease instead of Nagito and suffers the ensuing consequences (cue the hurt/comfort (hopefully)).

Summary
The sky was bright blue, a strange occurrence for Japan this time of year. Soon the cherry blossom trees would go bare, and the cold would make the pain worse. Winter had already begun, Komaeda falling asleep on his textbooks every night, chronic fatigue forcing him to take breaks he doesn't allot himself.
You'd think he would just give in eventually. He doesn't. He stands from the fountain, vision cascading black static. He pretends he can see, following the tile cracks beneath his shoe. “Don't wait up for me!” Komaeda shouts. He can't read their expressions very easily, especially through the glare of pre-syncope. “You know I'm- ah, not the most athletic.” He chuckles, but its weak.
Across the block, Hinata Hajime feels something shift. Suddenly the chatter is too calm, and suddenly the tall skyscrapers feel too empty. “Guys,” he says, voice pitching into panic. “Guys, where's Komaeda?"

Kirigiri Jin uses charity services to filter Reserve Course students out for a Project that could change humanity.
Hinata has learned everything about being a caregiver to the sick. He thinks he's just in time.

Nagito shifted under the covers. "Do you know René Descartes?"
“I guess.” Hajime furrowed his brows. “Cogito ergo sum.”
“Yes, cogito ergo sum.” Nagito echoed, “It’s a philosophical concept he reached by locking himself up in a room away from all distractions from society. Traditions, customs, obscurantism. His goal was to start from zero. Rebuild his whole philosophy from what he knew to be real. That’s where his first conclusion came from. I think therefore I am.”
“So... you’re changing your philosophy, then? What’s your new take on hope and despair?”
“I don’t know, Hinata-kun...” Nagito smothered himself with his own pillow. “So far, I’ve just been sleeping.”
After the Neo World Program, Nagito Komaeda poses as a philosopher by drowning in guilt and painkillers and locking himself up in a room until everyone hopefully forgets about his miserable existence. Unfortunately for him, Hajime Hinata doesn't mind playing philosopher with him and clearly plans on doing something about his state.

“Ah, I don’t know what you mean, Hajime! Do you think I’m implying something sexual? That’s dirty,” Nagito said with a giggle, much too innocent for what Hajime knew he was doing.
“Nagito…” He groaned, biting his lip.

Or: Hajime is convinced he can keep up his professional, distant facade forever. The universe and Nagito's luck has other plans.

Nagito Komaeda could talk about Hajime Hinata all day all night everyday forever and never get bored. Sometimes he deeply wished he had someone other than Hinata to listen to him, just so he didn't have to write paragraphs about:
"my beautiful boyfriend" "my favourite person" "the light of my life".
He wished he could roll Hinata's name off of his tongue to somebody instead of having to guide the desperate ink that marked those cream pages.

How was he supposed to tell reality from code anymore?
All the closure he had felt from finally accepting himself vanished as suddenly as it appeared—like he’d been nearing the finish line of a marathon only to realize he’d never been close at all. It was as if all his hard work had only brought him back to square one.
