Summary
John stands frozen in front of the window, the thin sliver of light escaping between the carelessly drawn curtains barely illuminating his face. At his sides, his cold hands are balled into fists so tight his knuckles strain white. He wants to punch something. Himself, mostly.
This is all his fault, isn’t it? -

Summary
His boys are lying on Sam’s bed. Sam has his nose buried in one of his school books and Dean is on his back, dozing. One of Sam’s hands is absentmindedly stroking over Dean’s belly, up and down, up and down. Every now and then, Dean will twitch, a little ticklish still, and one corner of Sam’s lips will tick up into a tiny smirk. He will pet over that same ticklish spot again and again, make Dean writhe, and only stop when Dean whines a quiet plea to stop.
Dogs don’t speak.
God, his boys are weird. Was he ever this strange as a kid? John can’t remember.

Summary
Cas stares back at him defiantly, and sometimes Dean thinks this is all the three of them do: trade off bitching at each other about some sacrificial idiot move the other one made until it’s time for the roles to switch, a veritable musical chairs of bad decisions.
After the season eight finale, Sam doesn’t go comatose, but he’s still horribly sick, fine one minute and collapsing the next. Newly human Castiel makes his way to the bunker to help Dean figure out a cure, but with three dysfunctional men under the same roof, all of them with their own unique baggage, things have a way of getting complicated. Fast.

Summary
Sam has known he's wrong, somehow, his whole life, it feels like. Not just the weird drifter kid thing, or the thing where Dad and Dean treat him like he's not actually a part of things, but something deeper, down in his kidneys, or his liver or something.
He's just… he can't put his finger on it (is afraid to name it, to put a label on the way his gut squirms when Dean smiles at him). But he knows, okay? Knows it the same way he knows Dean loves him, the way he doesn't know his mom.
Not eating helps.

Sam's relationship with food, and Dean's relationship with Sam's relationship with food, and the things they try not to talk about lurking in the background.
