Ilya thinks back to his first night at the cottage. They'd traded kisses in the dark until Ilya felt the anxiety overwhelm him and finally said Are you sure this is what you want? I know I am hard to love
It's not hard, Shane said, his expression unwavering, Loving you is so easy I've been doing it since I was 17 years old.
Ilya will keep those words in his heart forever, right next to his mama.

Summary
They do not talk about what they’re doing. To acknowledge the ground beneath their feet would be to crash and burn immediately, or so Ilya assumed. Like stupid coyote cartoon running off a cliff; it’s fine, until he looks down.
But tonight Shane sits on the edge of his bed and sets his jaw and asks, “It’s not just me, right?”
Shane, apparently, just noticed gravity.
[Or: a missing scene from Episode 5, in which Ilya is Totally Fine, obviously, and they have sex about it.]

Bookmarker's Notes
The problem – one of many problems – is that Ilya and Shane work together like they have always been a team. It doesn’t even feel like work to play hockey with him; it feels like wings. They are faster than anybody else on the ice, better, fucking unstoppable, and Ilya is soaring on the adrenaline of it.
When Shane scores, Ilya kisses the side of his helmet, and Shane lets him. It’s a dizzying new high. Ilya can’t even see the ground below his feet.
[...]
How the fuck did he let this happen? Should’ve pushed harder. Stupid. Never should’ve let it get this far. He should push Shane away now, but he can’t seem to make himself. Not today. Not again. He’s not brave, and it’s too late for all that. Can’t put the – what’s the saying? Can’t put the cat back in the box? Bird back in the cage? Can’t escape gravity once you’re back in the atmosphere. Can’t un-cry your tears.

Summary
On a Thursday, a video of Canadian star hockey player Shane Hollander goes viral on the internet. The video was taken on the previous Sunday, and it’s not what anybody expects. It’s not a sex tape, or a drunken fight in a bar, or any of the other videos that have been captured of others in the league, but instead, it seems to be a sneakily filmed video of Hollander confronting his former teammates.

Bookmarker's Notes
The radio turns down to play quietly, background noise, and Ilya glances at the rearview mirror. Hayden is looking at the road, and after a moment he meets Ilya’s eyes. He looks sad. They look at each other for a few moments, Ilya’s view of his eyes shifting as he and Shane rock back and forth as much as they can with the restriction of their seatbelts, and it’s like they’re communicating something that Ilya isn’t really sure about. And he thinks briefly, as Hayden is looking back and road, that he kind of loves him, this fucking guy that loves Shane so much that he’ll break his fucking heart so he knows what kind of people he’s around, so much that he’ll go with him to confront his own teammates— the teammates that he’ll have to keep seeing because he’s not trading— and so much that he’ll tolerate the sounds of sex just behind while he drives aimlessly.
He’s kind of great.

Summary
“Is that it?” Ilya ask dryly at the exact same time.
“Are you fucking kidding me, Rozanov?” Shane snaps, still feeling his heart in his ears. “Is that not bad enough for you?!”
“Some people burn dolls, some people shoot them,” he has the gall to shrug. “I get threats like that all the time. No big deal.”
“Yeah, well, I get them too, asshole, so I know this isn’t normal. It is a big deal.”
Or:
In the middle of a Montreal vs Boston game a threat against Ilya Rozanov becomes a security concern… and Shane Hollander kinda loses it. Just a little. In his defense, he’s pretty justified to be worried, okay? He is NOT overreacting.

Bookmarker's Notes
So he plays dirty. He looks up at Rozanov and says the one thing he knows will work:
“Please.” Like he is begging for his cock in his mouth. Like he is begging to be fucked. Like he is begging to be unmade. “Rozanov, please. It’s just one night. I’m sure you can put up with me for a single night, don’t you? We might even have some things in common.” And there it is, the promise. Shane is literally whoring himself out, selling his body, for a chance to keep this man safe (as if he’d ever needed a reason, as if he wouldn’t happily do it freely for as long as he can).
“Dirty move,” Ilya whispers, his voice doesn’t carry down the hall. It’s only here, floating between them. “Cheating isn’t nice. I’ll make you pay for it. Later.”
Shane wonders if Ilya is also half hard under his equipment. He is certainly thankful for the bulkiness of his. “Deal,” he replies bravely, raising his chin with a challenge.
Ilya’s eyes are dark, dangerous in a way that makes Shane’s entire body buzz with anticipation.

Summary
“You…wanted to see me?” He asks, barely resisting a wince at how awkwardly it comes out. “After yesterday-” He stops, swallows.
Hollander makes a face–one of Ilya’s favorite faces, in fact–that says he’s a little embarrassed about what he’s about to say. Ilya feels his chest go a little tighter, wondering if Hollander has had time to reconsider, if he’d even planned to reach out after the game, apologize for spooking and running, ask to come ba-
“Did something…happen yesterday?” Hollander asks.
Ilya stares at him.

Bookmarker's Notes
“Look, we will talk, okay?” Rozanov says. “But just…don’t run away, yes? Stay, please. Talk to me. Let me fix it.”
“Fix what?” Shane demands. “If you didn’t want me here, you shou-”
“I do want you here,” Rozanov says, the hand at Shane’s waist squeezing lightly. “I do. I-we didn’t fight. That’s not what happened. Just go downstairs with me, and we will talk, okay? Just don’t-don’t leave like this. Please.”
Shane draws a breath, eyes flicking back to the bag on the bed, trying to decide if he’s being appeased or not, if Rozanov is just suddenly polite enough to lie to him after getting caught in a different lie. If it’s more embarrassing to leave or to stay.
“Please,” Rozanov says. “Please don’t leave.”
Shane lets out his breath. “Okay.”
