    Summary

They say that, in the moments before death, you can see your life flash before your eyes. As he plummeted toward his end, Daemon Targaryen didn't see a fucking thing. But many thoughts raced through his mind.

He had always told himself he had no regrets. But that wasn’t true.

He regretted surrendering his crown to his ungrateful niece. He regretted marrying her. He regretted letting her place Harwin Strong’s children above his own—if Aegon and Viserys were even his at all.

His eyes searched the sky for the great green beast, but it had already vanished beneath the waters of the God's Eye, taking its rider with it. Bitterness and fury gripped the Rogue Prince. Everything he had done—everything he had sacrificed—had been for the honor and glory of House Targaryen. And for what? So a drunkard or a spoiled child could sit the Iron Throne? His House had been reduced to a shadow of what it once was, and history would remember him as nothing more than a consort—the lapdog of a whore queen.

He closed his eyes, awaiting death’s cold embrace, and in that final instant, he wished—if only for a moment—that he could do it all over again.

    Summary

Alicent's sobs echoed in the room as she looked at her father, her eyes pleading for a way out of the impending marriage. "Father, please," she choked out, her voice trembling. "Can't you speak to the King? Can't you make him understand that this is not what I want?"

Otto's expression remained unyielding, his voice a mix of authority and paternal concern. "Alicent, this is not just about what you want," he replied, his tone unwavering. "It's about the honor and future of House Hightower. The King's choice is a great honor, and you will fulfill your duty as his Queen."

Gwayne stepped forward, his voice softer, tinged with sympathy. "Sister, I understand your feelings, but our family's position is delicate. The King's favor is not something we can take lightly."

Alicent's tears flowed freely as she looked between her father and brother. "But what about what I want?" she cried out, her voice breaking. "What about my dreams, my aspirations? Am I to be nothing more than a pawn in this game of thrones?"

Otto's gaze hardened, his voice stern. "Your dreams must align with the needs of our house, Alicent. This marriage is an opportunity to secure our family's future."
