Most houses are simple creatures. Content to serve their purpose as living spaces for the people who come and go from between their walls. No needs beyond the basic things required to keep functioning; to keep serving that purpose. No wants. No wishes. No playing favorites with their people.
This House is not like most houses.
It wants, it needs, it certainly has its favorite people. And it will do whatever it takes to bring them Home.

She’s flattered; she’s pleased. “You know, I don’t really talk about this kind of thing with any of my other friends,” she says. “This kind of... girl stuff. Um. Personal girl stuff. About private and intimate topics! Like – like underwear, and breasts, and... all those other sorts of things you always seem to end up talking about, Hanako-chan. I feel like I have very different conversations with you than I do with any of the other girls I know!”
“Better conversations,” says Hanako. “Sexier conversations. That’s what you meant to say, right?”

“I was thinking about you,” Amane says. “And I thought - if I don’t go for it now... then when? You know? When else was I gonna do it? I don’t have all the time in the world. No one does. I thought about what’d happen if I missed my chance. If I left it too late. And—” Whatever he thought about that doesn’t bear repeating: he shakes his head. A short sharp rejection of the very idea. “So I thought I better seize the day.”
“Thank you for seizing the day,” Nene says happily. She sips her smoothie, also happily. She pushes it across the table, happily, to offer Amane a sip which he accepts from Nene’s own straw; happily, she takes it back. Happily is the state in which Nene will do everything she ever does in all the rest of her life.

“You are,” Hanako says. “Yashiro, you are. You’re dead. You died. You’re not meant to be here.”
“—I’m just at school,” Nene urgently continues to explain. “And I don’t think I’d do that, if I was dead. I’d do something different. Something, you know. Something... special. Something to mark the occasion! Something much more poignant and meaningful. I wouldn’t just go to school like normal.”
“Can’t get much less poignant and meaningful than living in a toilet! Yashiro," says Hanako, "you're dead."
