There was the possibility of it needing to be replaced soon; it was a topic of discussion at his last appointment, but there wasn’t a sense of urgency like there had been before his surgery.
So it came as a surprise to many when he went down chasing a suspect. Through gritted teeth, he tried to explain that it was just a misfire, but no one believed him, especially his partner, Ellie, whose panicked face swam in and out of focus on the ambulance ride.
