Summary
Mike Wheeler spends years trying to be “normal.”
Normal son, normal friend, normal boyfriend, normal boy.But growing up with Will Byers — through disappearances, monsters, trauma, high school, and finally college — makes “normal” feel less and less like something he actually wants.
This is the long, messy, painfully slow journey of Mike figuring himself out, losing himself, finding himself again, and realizing that the only thing that ever made sense — the only thing that ever felt right — was Will.

"Don’t," the other Mike cuts in, fast and low and urgent. "Don’t do this here. Don’t do this in front—" his eyes slide over—”not in front of them."
"Why not?" Will's future self snaps. "You wanna talk so bad, let’s talk."
"Not like this.”
“No—exactly like this,” he shoots back. “You don’t get to keep doing that. Acting like protecting him—yourself—is the same thing as protecting me.”
That lands harder. Quieter. More dangerous.
“You think he doesn’t deserve to know?” he goes on. “You think I didn’t?”
“Will.” A warning.
“You wanna start with the summer?” he says. “Or should we just skip ahead to New York?” A beat. His mouth twists. “Or even better—Dustin’s graduation?”

Michelle lights up. “Right! And it doesn’t even really count, right?” she grins, sitting up straight. “It won’t be weird. It’s just…something best friends do. Practising. Right?”
When Willow doesn’t reply, Michelle leans in a little, angling for reassurance.
“Oh, you—you were actually asking?” Willow asks wearily.
Michelle nods, still leaning in.
Willow gulps. “Oh, um—I don’t know? I…think so?”
“I think so. I’ve read about it,” she adds. “So, yeah. It doesn’t have to be a major thing. Just a…one time thing. Cool?”
“Cool…?” Willow falters.
“Cool!” Michelle gleams.
Or: Michelle offers herself up to Willow for kissing practice—only so Willow doesn’t totally embarrass herself in New York, of course. Willow fares with it all wonderfully.

“I fake it… with Carla,” Willow says quietly, her face flushing endearingly. Michelle can only stare at her, her brain struggling to actually listen to Willow’s words instead of just staring at her lips when she talks. Summary
