“Y’know, if your neediness is giving you urge to bathe someone, you really should’ve just volunteered at a home for the elderly, instead.” House informs him in a sarcastic drawl, “Just because I’m a decrepit cripple, doesn’t mean that I’m helpless.”
“Alright, then.” Wilson replies lightly, whilst focussing on squeezing a little more shampoo out of the bottle and massaging it into House’s salt & pepper hair, “Would you like me to leave, so that you can wash your hair all by yourself?”
House pretends to consider it for a few seconds before answering, “Nah.”
He even shrugs, feigning nonchalance, before adding, “I mean, where would I be without my favourite servant?”
Wilson shakes his head and tries to suppress a laugh, but it still comes out anyway in a soft huff of breath. The noise, though subtle, is enough to draw House’s icy-blue eyes to him and for a split-second, Wilson swears that he sees the corners of the other man’s mouth turn upwards ever so slightly in the shadow of a smile.

“Max.” Lucas breathes.
He’s just looking at her in that old fond way of his. It has been so long since Max’s been looked in that way that it now makes her feel a little odd. A little unsteady. Unsure what she’s supposed to do with such undeniable care. He’s simply staring at her softly, somehow eager and tentative all at once, eyes filling with warmth as his lips curve into a familiar grin. Max has really missed that smile. Seeing it is almost enough to make her return the expression.
Lucas moves forwards, arms suddenly stretching out to envelop her all of a sudden, to hold her close like it’s an impulse to do so. Like it’s an automic movement to make, like it’s a second nature which has only just returned to him. He leans down so that their heads are almost the same height, and hooks his chin over her shoulder. One of his hands comes to rest on her upper back, massaging small circles there in a soothing manner that almost has Max closing her eyes and relaxing into.
But she can’t do that. She can’t let herself act like that anymore. Because, as much as it used to be an instinct to let Lucas hold her, it has since become a stronger instinct to avoid letting anyone get too close to her.

Summary
El doesn’t feel like she is the best person to offer comfort, because she finds it difficult in general to understand what sort of help people need from her. But this is her brother, Will. They may witness and react to the world a little differently, but El is certain that they have similar souls. Their pain has overlapped in the past and they’ve been hurt in similiar ways that neither of them usually like to acknowledge.
Will is still lying down, but his arms are tightly wound around himself as if he’s trying to prevent blood from gushing out of an invisible wound. His grip on his sleeve is causing his knuckles to turn white, and she thinks that if he digs his nails in any deeper then he’s probably going to cause his skin to bleed through his shirt. El’s first instinct is to tug his arms away so that he stops causing himself anymore physical pain. The only reason that she resists doing so is because she knows that trying to force someone to calm down is not helpful to them in the slightest. It can actually make things a lot worse.

Ruffnut has never been all that great at dealing with ‘feelings’ and rubbish like that. Why would she be? It’s, like, so much better just to focus on fun things, rather than boring things like ‘emotions’ and all that sort of stuff that Psychologists somehow make a living out of talking about.
Ruffnut could easily be a Philosophy professor; all she really needs is a comfy couch, a microphone, and a willing audience to listen to her brilliant opinions. Hey, she should try to start something like that… maybe a podcast… or a cult! Sure, it didn’t go great last time, but there’s definitely a shit ton of famous sayings all about persevering, right? Well, Ruffnut’s loved bossing other people around ever since she was six years old - when she managed to figure out how to be at the top of the primary school hierarchy. She’d be great at running a cult!

OR
Mike and Will split up to comfort the Sinclair siblings after hearing what happened to them with the basketball team. Will goes to Lucas, and Mike asks Erica to come walk with him, hoping to get the younger girl to open up.

“Now he’s going to be pissed at me and severely hungover when he wakes up,” House complains, because everything is always about him. Despite the fact he could have prevented all of this, could have stayed instead of fleeing, he has the audacity to ask, “Why’d you let him get so drunk?”
Cuddy doesn’t scoff. She doesn’t break or yell or send House to sleep on the couch. She softens. “Because he missed you. And I understand that.”
Or, House has a habit of leaving after arguments.
