Tano had used the pillow under her head the night before and the scent of Farai’s favorite body-wash was still on the air, so her muddled brain got a bit confused when a hand brushed the side of her cheek and she leaned into it.
A moment later she pulled away with a start. “Sorry,” she said.
“It’s fine,” it said. It pulled its hand back slowly instead of flinching like it sometimes did when someone leaned in too close. “That…” it trailed off and took a breath. “It’s not… horrible,” it concluded.
(Or stupid humans should not do stupid human things like not sleep so Murderbot doesn't have to have these conversations.)

When Three begins to test the boundaries between it and Murderbot, ART begins to interfere - thinking it must know best. This backfires, of course, and they all deal with the ensuing fallout while still trying to do their jobs.

Knowing it wasn’t sufficient consolation, Mensah said, “It is rated to withstand lightning strikes.”
“But how many? This storm will last another three days at least.” Tano hesitated before saying awkwardly, “I’ve just never been sure.”
Mensah knew what he meant. The manufacturer said these bots had no self-awareness, but Tano said he could tell them apart. That they each had their own quirks and individuality.

It’s a reprimand that tells me my answer wasn’t enough. “It was our third date,” I recite. I have a memory of a kiss in my archives that I’m not allowed to delete, though I don't know if that was actually our first kiss or not. The memory of that kiss forms the basis of the story I’m telling now.

The PresAux team has done everything they could to repair SecUnit after it shot itself to stop the combat override module, but it still won't reboot. After reluctantly agreeing to go over its code once more, Gurathin finds himself deep in its part-machine, part-organic mind, on a starship full of colorful characters with ridiculous hair. It has to be a coded message to the Company, because what else could it possibly be?
