Shane blinked in recognition, and after a second's hurt and shock, he suddenly felt overcome by very different emotions—ones of fear, rejection…and confusion.
His body felt weak as he leaned against the wall. He felt dizzy; he couldn't balance anymore, and his legs felt like jelly. As he pressed his palms up against the wall to get some sense of stability, Ilya's eyes widened with concern.
"What's going on, Shane?"
"S-sorry, Ilya…I feel a little weird, all of a sudden. I've never done this."
Resignation dawned on Ilya's face.
"Did Cliff give you something?"
"Huh?" Shane said as he looked up from his confused daze to glimpse at Ilya momentarily. "Oh? Yeah…He did. How could I forget…Some sorta pill…"
