Ekko grips the paper like it might slip through his fingers if he lets it loosen, even slightly. The note had arrived on his doorstep a month after the war, and he'd taken it, crumpled it in his pocket, and forgotten its existence.
He doesn’t know why– maybe he thought it was another promotion from Piltover talking about the election of Sevika as a council member. At any rate, it stays in his pocket until two weeks later, when he empties his collection of screws onto the floor, and it slips out.

When Mel was cast and announced as the first Black woman to portray Christine, there were riots. Figuratively speaking. The general public and the media had been loud about the possible nepotism behind her casting.
Having a mother and a surname as popular and powerful as Medarda definitely had its perks.
To cast the first Black woman in such a longstanding and classic play after so many decades was groundbreaking. And, on top of that, they cast the first disabled actor as the Phantom.Viktor… something.
A random nobody with an accent so strong in interviews that critics were almost salivating to write a bad review of his performance.
With so much bad press and hearsay going around, everybody expected the two leads to stick together through all that.Only for them to immediately dislike each other.

She'd believed it and vanished into thin air, and despite Ekko’s desperate attempts to find her, she's very good at not being found when she doesn't want to be.
So he's tracked every lead, every rumor, every single hint, and that's how he's here.
In the deepest fighting pits in Zaun.
(Basically, Jinx ran away from the Firelights and got herself in a bad situation, and Ekko winds up forced to make them mates with a bite to save her. This leads to chaos as they develop a psychic bond, Ekko has to save her life again, and they're both disaster scientists fighting biology.)

There’s no accusation in her tone, just a matter-of-fact statement. Calling him out on his bullshit.
Ekko gets to working on another nail. He doesn’t respond. But he doesn’t deny it, either.
He hears her let out a breath through her nose. Like she’s figured something out. Maybe she has; she always knew him too well. He sort of hoped that after all this time, she couldn’t still do that.
But somehow, he’s not surprised.
