Summary
It's a hot July afternoon, Steve and Sodapop are hanging out at the gas station waiting for customers. Steve can tell that something is up, something Soda isn't telling. What Soda does tell him brings a lot of of complicated feelings to the surface; feelings Steve would prefer not to think about at all...
His first thought was that becoming a dad would take Soda away from him. He would marry Sandy and disappear into family life with a baby; a small closed world that left no space for their friendship, certainly not as it was—left no space for Steve.

Summary
It was supposed to be pretend.
Just a way to keep Ponyboy safe. Just something to keep the Socs from looking too close.
Johnny’s good at pretending he doesn’t feel things. Ponyboy’s good at pretending things don’t hurt. Neither of them are as convincing as they think, especially not with each other.
And when the Socs decide to stop playing nice, Johnny has to decide how far he’s willing to go and what it’ll cost him to come back from it.

He hasn’t really unpacked the way in which he loves Ponyboy, but he’s concluded to himself that he does. He thinks Pony is funny and sweet and stupid, sometimes, and endearing as hell, and his eyes are agonizingly pretty and the way his hair curls on his forehead when it’s just dried from showering is really nice. Johnny can be normal about that.

"Yeah, same." Johnny groans, leaning against the arm of the loveseat. “M’ scared I might be bad.”
Ponyboy looks over at him, his eyes stopping at a certain part of his face. Suddenly he has a thought he's never had before, and an idea forms from that thought. God, he's definitely drunk.
"Hm, maybe we outta.. y'know, practice?" Ponyboy suggests very quietly, half hoping Johnny wouldn't hear him.
Johnny chuckles dryly, "Oh, yeah? How do you suggest we do that?" He kind of slurs his words and he looks over at Ponyboy with an amused grin before a realization strikes him.
