"Something else?" Adrian turns their body in curiosity. They consider the reality of meeting another lifeform, of making first contact with an alien species. For what has to be the 1,000th time, Adrian thinks of their mate. ♪♫♪♫ would love to be here, clamoring for the opportunity to connect with intelligent life. They felt their vents flare with the weight of their grief.
"Yes, something else," their coworker, ♪♪♪, turns to their radio and twists a few knobs and adjustments until a strange voice spills out into the open air.
"Hǝllo¿ Ԁlǝɐsǝ¿ ∀ʌǝ dlǝɐsǝ I ƃoʇ ʇɥǝ qox' ʎon dɹoɯᴉsǝp' ʎon dɹoɯᴉsǝp ᴉp qǝ ɟɹǝǝ˙ I pᴉp ǝʌǝɹʎʇɥᴉuƃ ʎon ɐsʞǝp˙ Ԁlǝɐsǝ' qɹᴉuƃ ɯǝ nd˙" it cried out desperately, and despite the fact Adrian couldn't quite understand what it was saying, their fear and desperation transcended language and species.

So, here Etho was, dressed in casual business clothing paired with an itchy mask, on the top floor of a boxy, enforced building, fiddling with a card that had his face on it while holding a clipboard with a few scribbled notes.
In front of him was a steel door with a singular tinted window. He couldn’t see through the glass, but heard the sound of running water past it.
Etho didn’t know much about the patient, other than that the patient was male and his name was Joel Smalls. Etho was a little horrified, as other staff had given him a “farewell hug” while on his way up here, but admittedly, the thought of danger stirred something in him—danger meant something that wasn’t endless job applications.
There was only really one way to find out; he took a deep breath and swiped his card, pushing the heavy door open with a grunt.
TL;DR
Psychiatrist Etho bites off more than he can chew when he unknowingly signs himself up to be a caretaker of a high-risk patient in an acute psych ward.

Just as he expects to hit the ground, he actually slows down this time, inches away from the pavement. A blinding glow fills his vision, but quickly fades away.
For a few seconds, he’s stunned.
“What? What the heck? This is heaven? Gosh. Thought there would be pearly gates and stuff,” Joel muses to no one in particular. Logically, he should be having a panic attack right about now, but he’s not for reasons still unknown to himself.
Then it processes in his head that he’s being carried by someone. Joel shrieks like a little girl and jumps back onto his feet, the world nauseously spinning around him as he rams into a brick wall.
When he turns back to the person who caught him, he’s certainly met with a very strange sight.
TL;DR,
Joel gets shoved off a building by Grian and gets saved by his so-called 'guardian angel.'
