    Wendy wakes up on her third birthday, her first birthday after discovering she must grow up. Her parents are perplexed and troubled by her ensuing meltdown.

    Mrs. Darling enjoyed Wendy's birthday more than her own. She and Mr. Darling loved their daughter more than anything, and both of her birthdays so far had been so joyous. To Mr. Darling, children's birthdays were milestones, part of all their growth and achievements. For his own daughter, in particular, he was willing to let the hassles of budgeting go and spend some extra.
