Summary
Twenty years before Odysseus' return, Athena had held Telemachus for the first time and made a promise to protect him.

It took a long time for him to calm down, to stop screaming and thrashing and demanding to know just what exactly happened. Through his hysteria, Father managed to give a rushed sequence of events – bad information, an ambush, Earth benders, no one else in the mission survived and they did not think Lu Ten would either, except the boulder fell strangely, crushed his arm, but staved off enough bleeding to keep him alive until healers arrived, he was lucky. Not that Lu Ten felt lucky.
OR
Lu Ten survives, but his arm does not, leading to Zuko becoming his temporary scribe while he learns to write with his non-dominant hand; at the same time, he starts realizing family doesn't mean the same thing to everyone

Nobody was certain how it started. Or rather, nobody knew which one of them first came up with the idea. Asking them was as useful as talking to a brick wall, both gods feigning a level of ignorance that could rival that of a newborn baby. Probing for clues had about the same successful rate. That to say, the results were as dire as Apollo’s dating streak.
But everyone aware of the new development was in agreement on one specific fact, and they unanimously pinpointed it as the cataclysm that instigated the chain of events that, ultimately, led to their current predicament.
It all started with Hephaestus’ creation.
