Chloe pauses and lifts her head to look at her in confusion, face slightly flushed. "What? Of course I- oh."
Max sees the realisation dawn on her in real time and feels the sudden urge to laugh at how completely bewildered she looks.
"Oh," Chloe repeats, sitting up and giving Max a little more space. "For you, we've never… it's your first time," she says as the gears turn in her head. Max scoffs.
"My first time with you," she corrects. "I've had sex before, you know."

Chloe has memories of being with Max for years. They travelled the country, they shared countless moments, they argued... they had sex. But Max (this Max, at least) does not remember any of it. How could she? She watched Chloe die in their high school bathroom ten years ago.
Or: Max and Chloe explore intimacy together after the Caledon fire. For Chloe, it feels achingly familiar. For Max, it's a completely new experience.
