Hyacine watched Mydei, a look of admiration on her face, “He’s so strong. Lord Mydei could probably bench press me. You think so too, right, Lord Phainon? Maybe I should ask him for workout tips…”
Phaino wanted to deflect, to playfully denigrate Mydei’s achievements and brag about his own, just like he always did. Instead, he said, “He could do way more than bench press me. I’d tap that im-me-di-ate-ly.”
Hyacine looked at him, eyes wide, jaw dropped, with a look of befuddlement Phainon had never seen from her. Eventually, she seemed to recover, but her voice still came out strangled, “Tap that? You mean…?”
“It’s a joke,” Phainon tried to say, but his jaw all but locked and his voice couldn’t come out. Embarrassment? No. He was definitely embarrassed, but this felt different. Like when Mydei tried to show him how to pronounce certain Kremnoan words and he just couldn’t. All at once, he knew something was deeply wrong.
Phainon is hit with a truth Curio somehow, and he doesn't take it well. If only so many of his secrets weren't about Mydei.

“I guess it’s your turn then, right?” Kakavasha said, ending their game of chicken, “Shoot.”
Shoot. Ha. That was a pretty apt word for the question she was about to ask. It felt just as piercing as a gunshot.
Vashara forced her voice to come out steady and not concerned, “What is the relationship between you and Jade?”
Shock flitted across Kakavasha’s face. He looked at her like she was crazy, like the question was utterly ridiculous. He had some nerve.
It was obvious Kakavasha and Jade had more of a relationship than they led on. He spoke of her constantly, and mentioned working with her all the time. And sure, maybe Vashara wanted some dirt on an IPC big wig. But Vashara was a mercenary and was doing a fine enough job researching Jade on her own. Really, she just wanted to make sure Kakavasha was safe around Jade. Or, that is, as safe as he could be with such an evil woman.
Maybe he was just surprised she had the nerve to ask.
Kakavasha was silent for a few more moments before finally, he laughed, short and uncomfortable, “Weird. It’s super weird. Okay, I think we’re done for the day!”
Vashara and Aventurine have a conversation they’ve been avoiding.

What the hell kind of nickname was that? Did this Ratio think it was funny to use her brother’s vices as a term of endearment?
(A vice that Vashara was pointedly trying to ignore. Kakavasha had placed bets in his youth, sure. But now, it seemed everything he spoke about was done with the excuse to make one more bet. They spent hours playing card games, he balanced dice and chips between his fingers with a deftness she couldn’t hope to emulate. It was disconcerting, and, like the absolute coward she was, Vashara acted as if she hadn’t noticed a thing.)
They went back and forth like that for a few more minutes, but the conversation had fizzled out decently fast after that. Ratio had work to do and Kakavasha wanted to keep showing her around, but Vashara had walked away from it with a deep truth settling in her bones.
She, Vashara of Sigonia, hated Veritas Ratio with every part of her being.
Aventurine's sister is alive and is overjoyed to finally reunite with her brother after all these years. She's less thrilled about his choice in partners.

“But I think I’m confused,” Aventurine said lightly, returning to his affable demeanor, “You aren’t here for work or a hookup.”
“Correct.”
“You just wanted to see me. With no other motivations?” Aventurine laughed at the end, as if such an idea were ridiculous.
At last, Ratio was getting through to him, “It appears you are catching on. Very good. Five points.”
Aventurine laughed again slightly, face alight with an emotion Ratio could not place, “Hm. Alright. This is really weird. But I guess you’re really weird? So maybe that makes it normal for you.”
Ratio invites Aventurine on a real date for the first time. They have very different perspectives on the whole thing.

Summary
Phainon would never be this open with his troubles if he were in his right mind. Then again, it was obvious that Phainon had been burdened, even more so than normal since Mydei’s departure. The fact that he was drunk in the first place was evidence of that. Maybe this was the first step he needed to show that he could allow others to support him for a change. Even if it was the result of drunken ramblings.
“The worst part?” Castorice prompted gently, looking at him with soft eyes.
All at once, Phainon’s voice became oddly clear, “The worst part is I have no eye candy anymore.”
What?
What?
“What?”
“Miss Castorice, he’s so so attractive. The first time I met him I blacked out for a second. I thought—I thought a Titan had blessed me,” he looked at her imploringly, “He doesn’t wear a shirt. None. Never. Do you even get how lucky we were? I could write songs about his back. I will! Oh by the Titans, his back…”
Castorice would officially never forgive Aglaea for making her do this. Never.
In which, Phainon drowns his sorrows following Mydei's departure, and it's up to Castorice to help.
