Katara is halfway through parting out bits of hair for her hair-loopies when she hears voices coming from the other side of the (unfortunately thin) wall.
“Sleep well?” Zuko’s voice murmurs, rough with sleep.
Someone hums in response, and Katara’s about to pound on the wall and make fun of Zuko for having someone in bed with him, when the person speaks up.
“Pretty good, yeah,” Sokka says. Katara’s fist pauses halfway through it’s trek to the wall, held up in mid air.

Or, five times that Katara notices how close Sokka and Zuko are, and the one time she realises just how Close they really are.

Sokka is an excited, loving brother doing his best to hide his damage on the day of his sister's wedding. Add in a glitch in the space-time continuum, and their meeting is about to make this event a hell of a lot more than either of them could have bargained for.

Summary
After being disowned by his transphobic father, renowned congressman and oil company CEO Ozai, Zuko's only source of college tuition disappears out from under him. Left with nowhere else to go, his only choice is to skip town and move in with his uncle Iroh.
Except that Iroh lives in New York City, almost three thousand miles away from Zuko's college dorm in Long Beach, California.
With no car and few belongings, Zuko impulsively decides to hitchhike the length of the journey.
Be it fate or luck or something else entirely, he just so happens to meet a kind stranger with a bright smile and a sparkle in his eyes Zuko has never known; a stranger driving across the country to return home for summer break in Canada's far north.
Alternatively:
Zuko realizes that sometimes, it's the journey that matters more than the destination.
