Summary
The sidewalk bit into Niall's thrashing body like teeth. Every deep breath sat cold and dry in his lungs, every muscle drawn painfully taut beneath Ruben. Their limbs tangled frantically as they fought to overpower each other.

They both go still for a minute, breathing through it hard as they settle into the weight of what they’re doing. After all this time, what they’re finally doing.
It hangs there between them, huge and ugly, ripped open like a raw nerve, this unacknowledged thing they’ve danced around for decades now laid bare in the way Niall can feel the throb of Ruben’s heartbeat inside of him like this.
