As sudden as the inquiry may have come, Phainon didn’t find himself too startled by the intrusion. He’d seen it coming days before, anyway. He knew it would only be a matter of time until the prince’s curiosity finally got the better of him.
“Whatever you want me to be, your highness,” Phainon quips, his eyes fixated on the shore.

Summary
Sam, after having nightmares of drowing in the Sea of Simulation, returns to the Grid with one goal in mind: rescuing Tron from where he had sank after that final race to get to the portal.
He doesn't expect to be given any more reasons to return. He didn't even think he wanted to come back. He wasn't his father, and the Grid wasn't his passion project. He owed it nothing.
How wrong he ends up being.
