Summary
“Well, the term only just started,” Kel finally says, sounding a bit cheeky. “Wouldn’t blame you for missing your little bro!”
It gets another throat-laugh out of Hero, and Mari smiles despite herself. She wishes she was tangible enough to find Kel and ruffle his hair. That was endearing, even if it was a cop-out.
“You know I do, Kel, that’s not even a question,” Hero mumbles, and for the first time since answering the phone he begins to look a little tired again. His eyelids lower, his shoulders drooping. Mari holds her breath—so to speak—and Kel seems to too, the silence on his end of the line crackling through the receiver.
Then Hero smiles again. Like brother, like brother.

After Sunny musters the courage to tell the truth, Mari's ghost is allowed to roam free. She follows Hero back to his college dorm and watches as his mental health worsens over the course of three months.
(Or, the five times Mari watched Hero pick up the phone for Kel, plus the one time she did it for him.)

Summary
The most memorable moment of his life was winter of year 11, when he remembered looking in the mirror and being absolutely disgusted with what he saw. Sure, he wasn’t at his heaviest, and was actually 20lbs below that, but he felt awful. He started restricting his intake lower and lower, and would fast every other day. This numbed him, as he didn’t have to feel anymore. He only had to worry about losing weight and counting calories.
Or: Basil fights an eating disorder, and wants to recover. the recovery chapters will be in seperate fics, but in the EDMORI series tag.
