Summary
It's your last day of high school. Caleb couldn't be there and neither could Gran. You're alone in your childhood home, the pit in your chest growing bigger each day that passes—you miss him, not that you'll completely admit it to yourself. You can't. Or at least not too much, not enough for it to take more space still. But it's okay, it's just how life goes. Right? To take your mind off of things, you decide to celebrate with your friends by going to a party. Little do you know, he manages to get home one week early—he should leave you be. After all, you live your life, and so does he. Isn't it what growing up is? Yeah, he definitely should (he won't).
Or: Gege's coming back to pull you out of your depressed hole, but make no mistake, he's not pulling out.

Summary
“So... yeah, that's it, I guess,” Sam says, scratching the back of his head and glancing at Sebastian, who's as still as a statue.
Willow doesn't care. Actually, those two are a godsend because after weeks of interviews, they are the first that fit the bill, and she doesn't have the kind of money it takes to rent this apartment alone anymore. She has come to like it—a lot. Put her little trinkets here and there, and... Yeah, those other things that disappeared when he left.
Too empty. Two more people won't be too many to fill that void—not that they can really do anything for the one inside of her chest.
Or: What if the farmer never went to Pelican town, and stayed in Zuzu? What if Sebastian finally managed to move out with Sam, and those two were looking for a new place to live?

Summary
Your heart cleaves open. Your body can't move, not while he's using his Evol, but you just know it would have been if given the chance. The only thing you can do is look, eyes wide in disbelief, as the Colonel plunges cold, nebulous eyes into yours. You know those eyes, even if you've never seen them so cunning. You know them in a million different ways: crinkling around the corners as you poke his waist, wide in worry right after you fall, fragmented behind a glass door as you scream, flashing before your eyes before you sleep while hot tears stream down your cheeks.
Caleb's eyes.
Caleb, who is standing right in front of you, taking you to an interrogation room.
Alive.
Alive.

Summary
Mauve moves in her late Grandma's house, and everything is good. Nothing to hide, no missing family member, no crippling guilt, no magic suppressant, no impromptu crushes on two men, that's so not happening. The Ostrich Strategy still has bright days to come, and she definitely won't need any help to keep the past from resurfacing, and the stupid acrobatic number of her heart when she happens to get out of her house in check. Nothing to see here.
Or: a lost soul moves in a quaint little village, runs from her problems and herself thinking that all she needs is a fresh start. But she finds oh so way more than that, and ends up navigating the sinuous path of healing and self-discovery. Fortunately, she couldn't be more well-accompanied for that.

Summary
"It's quite hard being the new kid when you already have trouble speaking to your loved ones. A bit lonely, but especially terrifying when the sun itself descends from the sky to ask you if you could please, please come and play hide-and-seek. When you learn that his favorite color is orange, and that his mom makes awesome cakes, and that he has a slight pollen allergy and that's why he's crying, come on, he's not a baby. When he keeps you company although he's friends with everybody, unlike me. People in my class look at me weird because I'm hanging out with a little one, but they don't get it. They don't get home after the day to find a dim, utterly quiet home. They don't fear the weird smell that means one thing and one thing only: I will either eat whatever I can find in the fridge alone, or I am going to get screamed at so bad, I will regret even being born in the first place.
He only shines this brightly because everything else is slowly fading away.
He's all that's good in my life."

Summary
“I wish I could see into your head,” you murmur, freeing one hand from his grasp and tapping a finger against his forehead, right between his eyebrows.
“You don’t,” he says, because god, you don’t. He’s the exact kind of man that he wants to protect you from. But he’s also the only man that can protect you the right way.
(Once he came back, did what he had to do for Ever, everything would work out. His life, a list of wants: you and nothing else.)

Summary
He strokes your cheek. Wondering. “...Who are you?”
“...Caleb?”
You rear back, as though struck.
He should be… needs to. Crawl at your feet. Beg for apology with his head resting in your lap. Please forgive me. But he doesn’t. Too struck by the hurt in your tells, furrowed brow, biting lips, wounded eyes.
“Caleb…” You grip onto his arm. “You don’t remember me?”
“I’m sorry,” he says. “I wish I did.”

Summary
Caleb is like a puzzle piece that matches you perfectly. His joy floods into you like summer rain. But it comes at a cost; a reminder of the ache just under your sternum that comes with both missing him and being around him. Even your heartbeats seem to remind you that you’re lonely; incomplete.
Maybe it's because no matter how many hugs, jokes, cheek pokes or nicknames you two trade, he always stays just out of reach. Maybe it's because you haven't taken the leap. Or maybe, just maybe, Caleb is hiding something from you.
Just like you're hiding something from him.
(Hi! This was originally a completed short fic of three chapters. However, as a result of people's support and my own love for MC and Caleb's banter, I will be continuing this into a much longer fic with lore, angst, and spice. So, if you want short, read 1-3. If you want long, keep reading! <3)
