Summary
“She hates me,” Eddie tells him, refusing at this juncture to provide any further explanation. Buck will understand. He always does.
Buck snorts. “Eddie, the cat does not hate you. She’s just weird around men. You know that.” Buck seems to stop whatever task he’s doing, the whirring of what he assumes is Buck’s stand mixer coming to a pause. He hears shuffling as Buck drops himself into a chair, a soft huff escaping him. “What’s going on?”
Eddie sighs, pushing his chair back and standing—admitting defeat. “I was drinking my coffee at the table, and then she jumped up and got mad that I was there. It’s my table, Buck.”
He hears Buck trying to smother a laugh, and he does not appreciate it.
“She’s a cat, Eddie. She’s settling in—maybe a little bit asserting dominance.”
“Dominance? Buck, it’s my house. She’s a guest.”

Summary
Eddie wakes suddenly and violently, nearly throwing himself off the bed before he grasps at the sheets, eyes finding Buck in the dark.
Buck, who is sitting up in bed, panting, with a hand pressed to his chest.
“Buck? Buck, you okay?” Eddie rasps, voice thick with sleep.
“Racism wasn’t enough,” Buck slurs, barely coherent. “Had to frame me for murder, too.” A pause. Then, a huff of breath, followed by, “Naturally.”
Eddie blinks. Blinks again. “What?”
As if he’d never said anything at all, Buck lies back down, eyes already closed. Within seconds, he’s snoring.
Eddie wrestles with the urge to wake him again. Clearly, he’d been having some sort of nightmare, but— it seems he shook himself out of it? Probably?
“Okay,” Eddie breathes to himself, slowly settling back under the covers. “Night, then.”
OR: Buck has a nightmare about Tommy and subsequently breaks up with him. Unrelated to this (allegedly), Eddie dreams about The Bachelor.

Summary
“Buck, seriously.” Eddie catches his eye, staring intently, attempting to beam the anxiety straight into Buck’s brain. “I know we’re both playing it cool, but… How are you not freaking out right now? I’m freaking out right now.”
Buck quirks an eyebrow. “I thought you didn’t panic.”
“I don’t,” Eddie insists. “But I woke up in the wrong body this morning, and I had to—” He lowers his voice, ducking closer to Buck. “I touched your dick, man. Which—you know.”
A violation of boundaries. A line that can’t be uncrossed. Something Eddie feels deeply guilty about.
“You touched my dick?” Buck asks, approximately one billion decibels louder than necessary.
The room around them stills.
Or: Buck and Eddie switch bodies. Chaos ensues.

Summary
“So, you said you loved him and then he—” Hen starts, but Buck sighs dramatically and finally, finally lifts his head to look at them.
Karen has a soft look on her face, and Hen is taking a break from watching Buck with worry to glance at Karen, her expression softening instantly as she does so.
“He said ‘Love you too, man’ and then asked if I–” Buck pauses, sniffling quietly. He’s not crying anymore, thankfully, but he’s likely to start again at any second if he talks about this too much. He grabs his drink, fingers curled around the stem and takes a long sip from it before continuing. “He asked if I wanted a beer. And just … left.”
OR
Buck confesses. Eddie does not pick up on what's happening. Buck spirals.

Summary
Buck’s imagined finding his soulmate what must be thousands of times. Imagined the curve of their delighted smile, the warmth of their embrace. Usually, in his mind, they were a woman. As he grew older and knew himself better, he allowed himself to sometimes picture a man. Sometimes, before the truck bombing, he’d wished it would be Eddie himself.
But always, always, they wanted him.
The reality of the situation is a far cry from his daydreams: Buck, sitting on the cold tile, quietly weeping as he realizes that the person he’s been waiting for, the person he was made for, doesn’t want him after all.
-
In a world where soulmates share scars, Buck has a few epiphanies after the shooting. One: Eddie is his soulmate. Two: Eddie has known this since the ladder truck, and hasn't said a word. Cue angst.
